We are a stable and safe community offering a wide range of diving facilities, and FNQ Dive is also a place where virtually all of the instructor candidates during the 15 plus years of operating here have been able to successfully gain a paid position shortly after graduation.
Keith Cardwell has now been in the Dive Industry for more than 30 years, won countless awards including the PADI "Platinum" Course Director, trained more than 2,000 Instructors, established several 5☆ Instructor Development Centres and lived and worked as a Course Director in Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Maldives, and the U.S.A.
Originally qualified and working for ten years as a production and pneumatics engineer, Keith holds a PhD in the study of workplace competence for recreational diving instructors, a Masters Degree in Education majoring in Lifelong Learning with Diplomas in Vocational Education and Training (VET), Training, Design & Development (TDD), Business and Industrial Administration (BIA) & Sport and Recreation. He has been operating in Cairns for the past 18 years and works alongside Down Under Dive, Passions of Paradise and the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) Scuba College. Keith also visits New Zealand twice a year to perform PADI Instructor Training for The Dive Centre on the North Shore of Auckland City.

Kim has been diving now for 25 years and a PADI Course Director for 14 years winning many awards for excellence in training. In 2004 she established Far North Queensland (FNQ) First Aid training to deliver flexible first aid programmes to satisfy a wide range of individual requirements. Now combining her exemplary first aid training with her love of diving, she performs all of our first aid training programmes, beginner through to instructor.
Alongside her many accomplishments she is an active sportswoman and as well as being a personal fitness trainer, competing and winning several figure competitions, she holds a First DAN black belt in Taekwondo. These attributes also complement her wide knowledge of human physiology thus expanding her ability to not only teach correct first aid procedures but advise on preparedness and prevention.
Mark Earney, also a 30 year veteran of the diving industry has also trained thousands of students at many different certification levels. Having owned and operated his own retail and training business he is also in a strong position to give advice on careers to pursue, in, and related to, the diving industry.
Presently, and for the last several years, Mark has consolidated his engineering background to become a versatile scuba technician capable of servicing virtually any type of diving equipment you can throw at him. As a PADI MSDT he is also a qualified Technical Diving, Sidemount Diving Instructor and avid cavern diver.
Mucho Ikeda has been involved with the recreational diving industry for more than 40 years having spent his time equally between Japan and Australia. He has worked in all areas of dive operation including ownership of his own company for the past 25 years.
Mucho-san now specializes in personalized training for Japanese students at all levels, from open water divers through to instructors.
Lance has been diving for over 30 years and is a qualified Technical Diving Instructor and Closed Circuit Rebreather Instructor.
Lance can teach you to dive a Megalodon or Pathfinder CCR at his facility in Cairns - on your own unit or either of our dedicated training units.
A qualified nurse and current Standards Director for the CDAA, Linda has been diving for 25 years, teaching for 15 years and specialising in Cave diver training at all levels. Her experience includes diving caves in England, Florida, Thailand, Vanuatu, Wales, the Nullarbor WA, Tasmania, SA, NSW and FNQ.
Linda can offer training using all configurations of equipment set-up including sidemount and rebreather diving. All FNQ Dive cave courses are run by Linda.
Wayne has worked in the Dive Industry for the last 24 years throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands in Dive Centres, Resorts, Charter Boats and Skipper/Lead Camera Operator for Big Fish Productions making DVD’s of marine life around New Zealand in HD and 3D. Working in these different areas of the Dive Industry has given him a broad range of experience positioning him as an excellent advisor on professional dive employment.
